The Scout Hall has been booked for all these weekends, including this year the whole of the work week in August.
We are three miles from Canterbury and four from Herne Bay. There are plenty of petrol stations and supermarkets within a short drive. The nearest pub is down the lane and turn right. About a mile will bring you to a modern pub that does good food at about the usual prices. There is a restaurant on site that does food at reasonable prices during opening hours. Outside Wildwood, there is a café next to the pet shop. It does excellent cheap food BUT is not open on Sunday!
Usefully, there is a very good modern camping shop just outside Wildwood.
Water is available at the scout hall, but we do not have any on site at the moment. Please remember to bring water containers with you.
Proper washing and toilet facilities are available at the Scout Hall when booked.
Normally, camping space is available outside the Burgh but is quite limited, so please ask in advance. Sometimes, we hire one of the outlying camping areas at the scout hall just down the track, but generally we feel that the Scout Hall and what is available outside the Burgh is sufficient. Please tidy up behind you and in particular carry all rubbish of the site. There are bins at the Scout Hall for black plastic sacks.
Vehicular access is via New Road, a lane running up the side of the Wildwood site. Apart from the potholes and speed bumps, there are kids and dogs playing, so PLEASE DRIVE SLOWLY AND QUIETLY UP AND DOWN THE LANE. Bottom gear at tickover is quite fast enough! Those who are modern camping will be able to park at the scout hall. There is a small amount of parking at the side of the lane and the Wychurst "by pass" and clearings in our woodland can accommodate quite a number. Please do not drive into the Burgh unless it is vital that you do so. Last year, we were discouraging vehicles within the Burgh & this year we are going to do our best to keep vehicles out.
Site access is not particularly easy, but we will be delighted to "see you in" if you are in doubt.
There are no directions available here. They will be issued with maps if required to Regia members at appropriate times.
We are very secluded here-but we are not high up in the mountains! Whilst not expecting any security problems, please be prepared to look after your property. I'd lock valuables in the boot of your car if I were you, just as you would anywhere else.
