Woodworking was a widespread craft in the Viking Age. This may sound a rather prosaic statement to make. However, rather than being a part of the Iron age, even towards the latter end of it, arguably it should be called the Wood age. Quite simply that without it, the Vikings could have never made it to these shores, and many other things besides. So wood, trees etc. become from a modern perspective a very underrated part of everyday Anglo-Saxon and Viking life.
